Scars & Stripes: Liberian Youth After the War

  • A Pulitzer Center-sponsored reporting project

After Liberia’s 14-year civil war a generation of youth were left knowing nothing but war. Some remained in Liberia, while others fled to places such as Staten Island. Reporter Ruthie Ackerman and photographer Andre Lambertson travel from Staten Island to Liberia to explore the challenges facing youth in post-war Liberia and see what happens when they arrive on American soil. Their reporting project, titled "Scars and Stripes: Liberian Youth After the War," is featured on Pulitzer Center's website.
